Digital Transfer Stations

Westlake Porter Public Library has several Digital Transfer Stations you can use for free! Contact Adult Services with questions and to schedule time at a station. You’re guaranteed two hours with the equipment (and four hours with the VHS to DVD converter), but if no one else is signed up after you, you may continue to use it. Bring a USB flash drive or SD card with you (no larger than 32 GB) to save your work.

Library staff will not help you create your project, but they will point you in the right direction to online or paper help.

The following Digital Transfer Stations with associated tools are available for use at WPPL. Just ask!

Transfer VHS to DVD
  • Bring in a blank DVD-R and sign up at the Reference Desk for up to 4 hours
  • Copy-protected videocassettes will not work
  • Smaller videotapes can also be transferred with an adapter or camcorder, such as VHS-C, 8mm, Hi-8, Digital 8, and Mini DV tapes. You can also bring your own camcorder to hook up.
Digital Slide Converters

Scan individual 35mm slides (up to five at a time) onto an SD card or transfer to a computer via USB. The quality won't be as good as from a professional company, but it'll do the trick.

  • Has adapters for 35mm, 127, 126, and 110 slides and negatives
  • Take snapshots from 8mm and Super 8 film you can later combine on a computer
Film Digitizer

Wolverine Movie DigitizerWolverine 8mm and Super8 Reels Movie Digitizer

  • Can transfer smaller reels of 8mm and Super 8 film onto an SD card (no larger than 32 GB)
  • Note that after the film is converted, it will play slightly too fast. If you download the free, cross-platform OpenShot Video Editor, you can easily change the frame rate back to normal.
