Westlake Porter Public Library is participating in the Veterans History Project, the mission of which is to collect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American wartime veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans in their own words and better understand the realities of war.
Local veterans are interviewed on DVD-R video and the videos are archived at the Library of Congress with select videos available for viewing online from the Library of Congress.
WPPL is currently collecting oral histories from veterans living in the area, regardless of branch or rank, who served in the United States military in any capacity from World War I through the present and are no longer serving.
View the oral histories already collected through Westlake Porter Public Library or visit the Library of Congress Veterans History Project for more information on the nationwide effort.
If you are a veteran and would like to share your memories with your community, we’d love to hear from you! Please stop by the library or contact the Local History Librarian with the form below to get more information on how you can participate in the project.
