StoryWalk® at Westlake Recreation Center Park

Lynn Pettyjohn of the Friends shows a young patron a page from the StoryWalkWestlake Porter Public Library and the City of Westlake have partnered to provide a StoryWalk® in the Westlake Recreation Center Park, located along the walking path near the playground.

A StoryWalk® is an interactive way for young readers and their caregivers to enjoy reading and nature at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s picture book are displayed on special posts along one of the park's paths. As you stroll down the path you are directed toward the next page of the story.

A joint project between the Library and the City, Westlake's StoryWalk® is funded by the Friends of Porter Public Library and memorial donations in honor of Sandra Sauer, former library employee and member of the Friends.

Featured Picture Books

Approximately once a month, weather permitting, the picture book featured in the StoryWalk® will be swapped out for a new title. Check here or stop by the Youth Services department to find out more about the latest title or any past or future titles.

Now Showing on the StoryWalk®

Cover of Winter, Winter, Cold and Snow by Sharon Gibson Palermo; Illustrated by Christina SongWinter, Winter, Cold and Snow

A gentle, repetitive story about forest creatures on a cold winter's day and night. With colorful, child-friendly illustrations this is a sweet pick for cozy storytimes by the fire.

Read this book on the StoryWalk® before or after sledding, when there isn't enough snow for sledding, or the sledding hill is too crowded! Check out the book (we have it as an e-book, too) to enjoy at home when you are nice and warm!
