StoryWalk® at Westlake Recreation Center Park

Lynn Pettyjohn of the Friends shows a young patron a page from the StoryWalkWestlake Porter Public Library and the City of Westlake have partnered to provide a StoryWalk® in the Westlake Recreation Center Park, located along the walking path near the playground.

A StoryWalk® is an interactive way for young readers and their caregivers to enjoy reading and nature at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s picture book are displayed on special posts along one of the park's paths. As you stroll down the path you are directed toward the next page of the story.

A joint project between the Library and the City, Westlake's StoryWalk® is funded by the Friends of Porter Public Library and memorial donations in honor of Sandra Sauer, former library employee and member of the Friends.

Featured Picture Books

Approximately once a month, weather permitting, the picture book featured in the StoryWalk® will be swapped out for a new title. Check here or stop by the Youth Services department to find out more about the latest title or any past or future titles.

I set off one morning in my little red canoe.
My dog wagged his tail.
"Can I come, too?"
"You bet," I said.
"A trip for two—just me and you."

When a girl and her dog set out on a canoe trip together, they're expecting a quiet afternoon for two. Then a beaver decides to join them, even when the girl protests that "It's a one-dog canoe." And when a loon, and a wolf, and a bear, and a moose all ask for a ride, it's almost too much. But they all manage to fit in this one-dog canoe—until a frog comes along. . . .
