Young Adult Librarian

Qualifications
Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited university. One to three years of public service library experience preferred. Excellent command of children’s literature, particularly for young adults, including tweens, and a strong commitment to serving children, young adults, and their families is essential. Comfort and familiarity with current information technologies. Willingness and ability to learn new technologies. Ability to communicate and function effectively in a team-oriented environment. Strong written, verbal, customer service and interpersonal skills.
Brief Job Description
Under the direction of the Youth Services Manager, the Young Adult Librarian develops, plans, and implements young adult and tween programs. Maintains the Teen Lounge area as an active learning environment, advocating for the literary needs and appropriate development of this emerging segment of the community. Assists patrons in locating materials and information and using library equipment and resources.
Hours
40 hours per week. Daytime, evening and weekend hours required on a rotating basis and as needed.

Qualifications
High School degree required. Library experience or experience working with the public preferred. Must be able to work effectively and communicate with a wide variety of co-workers and members of the general public. Strong computer skills and ability to handle cash and credit card transactions. Ability to become certified as a Passport Acceptance Agent is preferred but not required.
Brief Job Description
Reporting to the Circulation Department Manager, this position provides excellent customer service by checking in and out library materials, answering phones and patron questions, as well as directing them to the appropriate resources within the Library. Responsible for maintaining good public relations by using tact and providing friendly service. Processes passport requests, if certified as a Passport Acceptance Agent.
Hours
20 Hours per week. Daytime, evening and weekend hours required.
Pay and Benefits
Starting rate of pay - $13.50 – $18.00 hour, non-exempt. ($12.50 - $17.00 without passport agent eligibility.) The library offers generous paid time off including vacation, sick, and holiday hours.

Sets up, takes down and otherwise arranges meeting rooms for classes, meetings and special events. Ability to work effectively and communicate with a wide variety of coworkers and members of the general public. Knowledge in safe use of cleaning chemicals. Ability to work with Windows-based operating systems, e-mail, and library software programs.
